Utah Civil Rights & Liberties Foundation

Utah Civil Rights & Liberties Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, and its purpose is:

  • to provide legal assistance and services with regard to civil rights and liberties to indigent persons, to the poor and to other persons that cannot financially afford legal assistance who are in need of such services;
  • to support programs and groups that are engaged in legal representation and services to such persons that have suffered harm to their civil rights and civil liberties;
  • to improve the instruments of the legal and judicial systems to the betterment of our society in the areas of civil rights and civil liberties;
  • to support programs and groups that seek to fulfill the obligations of the legal profession as set forth in the Canons of Legal Ethics and the Utah Attorney’s Oath, especially with regard to the provisions and requirements of providing legal services to the poor, helpless and oppressed;
  • to secure and maintain free speech, free press, free assemblage, due process of law, equal protection of the laws, and other civil rights and liberties, and to take all legitimate action in furtherance of such rights and liberties;
  • to pursue these objectives without political partisanship;
  • to fulfill the legal, ethical and moral obligation to zealously defend civil rights and liberties of those financially unable to employ legal counsel;
  • to engage in solicitation of public funds and private donations to be used for these purposes;to engage in and encourage research to improve the quality of legal services in the area of civil rights and liberties rendered to those in need.
